5 Skincare Habits to Start Now!

What a time to be alive! I hope you are well, keeping safe and taking care of your skin! I'm using this worldwide pause to really care for myself in every way possible, we have all been gifted with the best gift, TIME.


There has never been a better opportunity to really delve deep into self-care and I hope you are embracing this opportunity (despite how challenging it may be)

What better way to immerse yourself in self-care than with skincare! Don't have a routine, not sure what to do with your skin or have some skin concerns you want to improve? NOW is the best time to really work on it!


Here are 5 Skincare Habits to start NOW 



Double Cleansing


Washing your face with two different cleansers! This is great for All skin types (no one is left behind) and is super effective in removing impurities that can cause acne and premature aging. Double cleansing is a key part of my nighttime routine. I like to use an oil/balm cleanser first to breakdown any dirt, sunscreen or make-up (now a distant memory) and then a gentle foaming or gel cleanser to ensure everything is off. Whilst you should be washing your face TWICE daily (*side-eyes*) I personally find double-cleansing at night is a thorough enough cleanse that I can just use Micellar water in the morning.





At Home Facials


Performed by a licensed aesthetician, facials can help clear clogged pores, hydrate dehydrated skin, remove dead skin cells and incorporate facial massage which aids in blood circulation and lymphatic drainage (more on this soon). Whilst not the same as one done by a pro, an at home facial is a great way to pamper yourself and treat your skin. I just started a 'Facial Friday' IGTV series on Qskin instagram page and will be uploading facials you can do yourself at home, so keep an eye out for those! 



Exfoliating Regularly


Now is a great time to really ensure you're exfoliating two or three times a week! If you're someone who forgets, make a plan, write it down and action it: I exfoliate Monday, Wednesday and Friday -- figure what days work best for you.

In the post I also breakdown the different types of exfoliation you can do, I'm a huge fan of chemical and enzymatic as they are less abrasive than physical.





Hydrating Rose masks with real infused rose petals, Oil balancing clay masks featuring activated charcoal, Brightening ultra-fine sheet masks --- These are a few of my favourite masks. Similar to at home facials, masking can be a great way to pamper and treat your skin. Slap on that sheet mask during your next Zoom meeting or let that clay mask deeply cleanse impurities away whilst you lay in bed exhaling the day. Don't worry if you don't have any masks, I'll be sharing some DIY masks you can make yourself.



Wearing Sunscreen Everyday


Whilst you may not technically have to wear bottoms everyday or even put on a bra. You must wear sunscreen everyday, yes even if you're staying indoors and NOT sitting by the window. Sunscreen doesn't only protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays from the sun, it also protects your skin against blue light emitted from your phones, computers, and fluorescent lights. Netflixing, FaceTime calls and regular screentime all contribute to your blue light exposure. So save your pretty face and wear sunscreen everyday.
